It has been told that Henry and Christena Clapper were buried in Gannister in a cemetery near the ledge of the Quarry there. Quite some time ago vandals pushed the headstones from this cemetery into the deep water hole below.

From The Clappers in America by Marie Leighty Engel, pp 52-54 we
take the following: "Henry I and his wife Christena were not mentioned
in the "Brief History of the Clapper Family" 1765-1915. The son Ludwig
and some of his descendants who were mentioned were no doubt the only
people of the Henry I family the committee were acquainted with. The
Village of Clappertown along Piney Creek perpetuates Ludwig's memory.
Henry's oldest son Henry (Jr) had settled in Bedford Co. When another
son Herman died in 1804 his sons left Clappertown soon after. The 300
acre farm of Henry I continued in the family through Ludwig and his
descendants for three generations. It is presently (1980) a dairy farm
but no longer in the Clapper family.
We have no other clues concerning Henry I and his existence
before 1785 except one record found in MD. This was located in the
1776 census of Washington Co., Henry Klaber age 58, Christena age 50,
Elizabeth age 17, Mary age 13; Margaret Klaber age 27 was now married
to Michael Boyer.
This has been a frustrating search for this Henry I and his
were-abouts prior to 1785. There is a possibility that Henry I was
counted in error in the census of 1776 in MD and was really on the PA
side of the border. As one reads the various documents and studies the
history of the descendants it seems obvious that Henry I must have
resided somewhere along the PA and MD border area of Franklin Co, PA
(earlier Cumberland Co) and Washington Co, MD. This border area was a
subject of dispute between both states for sometime. Some families
whose names are connected with Clappers held property on both sides of
the border. Some married with Clappers and then moved to Huntingdon
and Bedford Counties. Not all MD records are available - probably
destroyed by a courthouse fire in Hagerstown.
At this point we would like to make an assumption concerning an
immigrant. There is a possibility that Henry I may have been the son
of J. Henry Klampert (Klappert) who came to Philadelphia in 1753 from
Hamburg, Germany. The group from the Bedford-Huntingdon area signed
"Klappert" or used that spelling in documents and we did not find that
to be true with other Clapper groups. Perhaps J. Henrich Klappert died
before the Revolution or shortly thereafter and that is when his
possibly three sons Henry I, Hermanus II, and John III joined the
movement to Bedford and Huntingdon Counties. The family tradition that
was related may have some substance of truth. Perhaps it was J. Henry
Klappert and his wife who were the immigrants with one son who
possibly was given in bondage, (Henry I). His other sons would have
been born in America.
We can be more positive in Henry I and Christena's history with a
tax assessment in then Frankstown Twp, Bedford Co. in 1785. This area
became part of the newly formed Huntingdon Co. in 1787 and we find
that he was taxable here until his death. In 1786 he was assessed for
150 acres 2h2c and lived "nr Beaverdam". By 1791 he had 300 acres and
it remained so until ca 1797. Henry I settled along Piney Creek where
it flows into Juniata River.
