THE TWOGROUPS DISAGREED IN THEIR INTERPRETATION OF THE PEACE OF AUGSBURG (1555), WHICH HAD BEEN INTENDED AS A SETTLEMENT OF THE RELIGIOUS QUESTION IN GERMANY. IN ADDITION, THE PEACE OF AUGSBURG HAD RECOGNIZED ONLY CATHOLICS AND LUTHERANS. THERE WERE MANY CALVINISTS IN SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL GERMANY AND THEY ALSO DEMANDEDRECOGNITION.HANS PETER WAS A MILLER AND ALSO THE COURTIER OF THE TOWN. THE KURPHAZ GOVERNMENT PAID HOMAGE TO HIM AFTER THE THIRTY YEARS WAR BY GIVING HIM THEMILL.
